Trustgreen Litter Pick
On the 13th of March, the Northwest Estates team organised a Litter pick at Porth Eirias Beach as part of the Spring Clean Cymru campaign. Spring Clean Cymru is a part of the Great British Spring Clean, the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
About Keep Wales Tidy
Keep Wales Tidy’s originated in the 1950s when post-war pride in the UK led the way in tackling the growing issue of litter. In response, the Women’s Institutes established the Keep Britain Tidy group.
In 1972, the Keep Wales Tidy campaign was initiated, evolving from the Welsh Directorate of the Tidy Group. Keep Wales Tidy then became an independent charitable organisation in 2005.
The Keep Wales Tidy charity supports people to create and care for local green spaces, benefiting health and wellbeing, providing a haven for wildlife, and feeding into the wider global effort to combat the climate emergency. Not only does litter cost Wales roughly £70 million to remove each year, but it also has devastating effects on marine and local wildlife. The RSPCA reports on average receiving 14 calls a day about animals affected by litter, with calls spiking in the summer months.
Team Litter Pick
The team organised and conducted a litter pick at Porth Eirias Beach in Colwyn Bay, focusing on cleaning up the area. Over the course of two hours, they worked together to gather litter from the beach despite the drizzly weather throughout the day. The team successfully collected six bags of litter in total weighing around 10kg. Their efforts not only improved the beach’s appearance but also helped protect the local environment and wildlife.
