About Us | Trust Green

Trustgreen provides an award-winning sustainable open space management service. Trustgreen was founded in 2013 with the aim to provide an unrivalled specialist open space management service that contributes towards a sustainable future for all.

We work closely with our clients and residents across England and Wales to build thriving communities and environments, with our dedicated customer-led approach setting us apart.

Something else that differentiates us is our passion for the environment in which we work.

We’re striving to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) on all our managed sites. Our strategic approach creates sustainable habitats which support and nurture local wildlife, encouraging nature to reclaim areas impacted by construction.

Since 2024, we have been awarded 3 consecutive Green Apple Environment Awards for our focus and approach to safeguarding and improving the unique native habitats our residents’ doorsteps, helping to develop an understanding and appreciation of local wildlife.

How we became Trustgreen

Trustgreen was founded in 2013 by our CEO, Jon Bracegirdle, as TrustMGT, with the aim of providing high quality open space management that also contributes towards a sustainable future for all.

In 2023, after 10 years of evolution and development within the industry, we rebranded as Trustgreen to better reflect the work we do across our sites.

We have worked with developers across the UK, large and small, to give residents the most enjoyable living experience possible through their outdoor spaces and community hubs.

A brief history…

Before the 1990s, when a new housing estate was built, public open spaces (POS) like play areas, verges, green strips, and small parks were typically adopted and maintained by local councils.

Developers would build the estate and associated green spaces to the council’s standards, and transfer ownership (and a commuted sum) to the council. The council would then take over maintenance using local tax revenue. This meant residents didn’t pay anything directly beyond their council tax.

From the late 1990s into the 2000s, many local authorities began refusing to adopt new estate open spaces.

But why?

Budget Constraints – Councils were under pressure to cut costs and therefore couldn’t take on more maintenance liabilities.
Increased Housing Density – Modern estates had more complex landscaping and higher upkeep costs, which have only increased with the legislation changes around Biodiversity Net Gain.
Risk Avoidance – Councils wanted to avoid long-term obligations for spaces that served only small communities.

This meant that developers were left with open land which still needed to be legally maintained, as a result, the markets responded and private management or estate management companies were formed. This system has now become standard practice for unadopted public open space.

Open space management via private companies is now the norm for most new developments.

We were greatly relieved to see the early improvements made by your landscape team and the conscientious manner in which they have maintained the area since.
