On the 7th of September, the Avon Valley Indoor Bowls Club at Upper Lighthorne held a community day. The day was marked by the opening of the new Pétanque terrain, kindly installed by the DSM Group in partnership with Homes England.

The Bowls Club is committed to serving the existing and emerging community by diversifying activities, and Pétanque is a popular pastime across Warwickshire. The idea of a Pétanque terrain was presented to Homes England and DSM, who generously agreed to provide the club with these new facilities for the community.

Emma Hills, Community Champion of Upper Lighthorne said:

“We cannot thank DSM enough for their generosity and judging by the interest shown at the open day, this will be a very well-used community activity.”

Dawn Chapman, treasurer of the Avon Valley Bowls Club said:

“Pétanque is something I’ve been promoting within the Bowls club for a couple of years, so I was delighted when Emma mentioned that Homes England and DSM were willing to do the work for free. Pétanque and indoor bowling are sports that can happily sit alongside each other – both use hand-eye coordination but have different delivery techniques, so they don’t detract from each other. The interest shown at the Open Day more than exceeded expectations, and I can’t wait to get Avon Valley Pétanque up and running”

The Avon Valley Bowls Club is excited to join the Pétanque community and would like to extend thanks to everyone who supported the open day, with special appreciation not only to Homes England and the DSM Group but also to Whitnash Pétanque Club, who joined us for the day to teach us how to play.
